The BIPOC Coffeehour is publishing a book featuring creatives of color in Rhode Island

At the last meeting of the BIPOC Coffeehour in June, the advisory committee announced it will create a book that features the works of creatives of color in Rhode Island.

This publication will be an artifact of the work and lives of the BIPOC communities in the Ocean State, and it is an extension of the group’s “Writers Like Us” initiatives.

It’s open to fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. While the focus is on writing, narrative illustrations will be considered.

The group plans two versions of the book: a traditional trade edition and a limited-edition special binding.

To help create those special editions, the committee plans to host bookbinding workshops. The workshops will help create the limited editions while teaching attendees a new skill.

The call for submissions will open soon, and the group plans to close the window by November 1.

There is an aggressive publication schedule that aims to have the book ready by early 2027.
